Steve Shevlino

Steve keeps up with everything in current publications and teaching methods and advises us on the most interesting rare selections. He is well versed in teaching beginners as well as advanced students. Many of his students have gone on to participate in jazz and rock ensembles, as well as classical groups, such as the Westminster Junior Musical Club. Also, a large number of students have scored very well at the New Jersey Music Teachers Association auditions.

Recorded Works

Steve recently finished a recording for the soundtrack of a 55-minute DVD titled In the Studio, The Artwork and Painting Methods of David Shevlino. He recorded compositions of known twentieth-century composers such as Dello Joio, Previn, Brubeck, Carol, Tansman, Nin-Culmell, Casella, and Persichetti as well as some of his improvisations for this project. The DVD received favorable reviews by Lisa Gloria of She writes, "The music is Great!"

Steve Shevlino

Steve has also been active in setting up the digital recording facilities at Carolyn Klinger-Kueter Music Studio where he has served on the faculty for the last 20 years. The studio can record any live instruments or voices as well and Baldwin and Steinway grand pianos in the main concert studio. Steve has used the equipment to make his recordings of piano works by composers such as Chopin, Moszkowski, Piston, Ginastera, Muczynski, and others. Also, he has engineered recordings for many of the students at the studio. Some have successfully used these CDs as part of their college admissions packages.

Mr. Shevlino has also recorded works by Liszt, Gershwin, and Turina at the opera house in Wilmington, Delaware. This was the original impetus for developing the facilities at the studio here in Westfield, New Jersey. Having the capability to record during a student's lesson has also proved to be an invaluable teaching tool. Teachers can record new pieces for demonstration for students, and they can learn a great deal from listening to their own playing. Additionally, YouTube links to the studio website are planned so that recordings made by faculty and students can be accessed by anyone.
