Musical Theory
Musical theory and how it applies in all aspects of music style.... from Bach to Bebop, Folk to Jazz, is an essential part of the curriculum. Gone are the days of rote memorization without knowledge as to how the structure of a ballad and a symphony are similar, and how the 12 Bar Blues developed into the popular forms as we know it today. Now students are expected and can sight read, transpose, recognize key signatures, improvise and compose... thus giving them an understanding and appreciation which will enhance a lifelong enjoyment of music.
