Steve Shevlino
Steve keeps up with everything up-to-date in publications and teaching methods and advises us on the most interesting rare selections. He is at home with teaching beginners as well as advance students. Many of his students have gone on to participate in jazz and rock ensembles, as well as classical groups, such as the Westminster Junior Musical Club. Also, a large number of students have scored very well at the NJ Music Teachers Association auditions.

Steve recently finished a recording for he soundtrack of a 55 minute DVD entitled “In the Studio, The Artwork and painting methods of David Shevlino.” He recorded compositions of known 20th century composers such as Dello Joio, Previn, Brubech, Carol, Tansman, Nin-Culmell, Casella, and Persichettie as well as some of his own imporvizations for this project. The DVD has received favorable reviews by Lisa Gloria of “Artstudio.com.” She writes, “The music is Great!”
Steve has also been active in setting up the digital recording facilities at our studio where he has served on the faculty for the last 20 years. The studio can record any live instruments of voices as well and Baldwin and Steinway grand pianos in the main concert studio. Steve has used the equipment to make his own recordings of works by composers such as Chopin Moszkowski, Piston, Ginestera, Muczynski, and others. In addition he has engineered recordings for many of the students at the studio. Some have successfully used these CD’s as part of their college admissions packages.
Mr. Shevlino has also recorded works by Liszt, Gershwin and Turina at the opera house in Wilmington, Delaware. This was the original impetus for developing the facilities at the studio here in Westfield. Having the capability to record during a student’s lesson has also proved to be an invaluable teaching tool. Teachers can record new pieces for demonstration for students and they can learn a great deal from listening to their own playing.
In addition, YouTube links to the studio website (Carolyn@carolynmusic.com) are planned for the fall so recordings made by faculty and students can be accessed by anyone.
