Recitals/Parties
There are five events scheduled throughout the year to encourage confidence in the students to perform for others. It's also an opportunity to hear and be heard, and to make new friends along the way.
The first one is Halloween, when students and TEACHERS dress in costumes and get to know one another in a fun and informal atmosphere. The second event is the Holiday party, when the students incite their SIBLINGS. It's a joy to watch them dress up in their very best.
The refreshments are supplied by them: home made cookies! The Valentine's Party is my favorite. Students invite their special ADULT friends: i.e. mother, father, aunt, uncle, teacher, neighbor, grandparent, mentor, etc. This party takes on a more subdued and sophisticated ambiance, but no less charming. Next is the Irish/Spring theme, and it's the opportunity for BEST FRIENDS to join in for a great time.
By now, their audience has expanded from the comfort zone of the first get-together to a performance for their parents. This builds up to the final Recital. There are six in all. Each one has a small number of guests. Great care is taken to have the performers and their families participate with others who are friends. We encourage grandparents to attend these festivities, as well.
