Performing Opportunities in Community and State
At the Middle and High School levels, virtually all our students participate in musical ensembles. For several years in a row, many of our jazz performers have competed and been chosen to join the most elite groups. For Classical Music-oriented students, there's the Westfield Junior Musical Club. Students audition for acceptance, and performance meetings are held once a month. It's functions under the auspices of the The Musical Club of Westfield, an or ganization devoted to fostering and encouraging good music, providing opportunities for performance, and supporting college music scholarships. Each year, two of it's members act as advisors to the Junior Club branch: an honor I have filled throughout the years. Our studio is a member of the New Jersey Music Teachers Association which annually offers young pianists to participate in it's Auditions and Competitions. In fact, in May of 1968, the VERY FIRST auditions were held in THIS studio, with 8 students performing,Now, an average of 1400 students do so, in events around the state: the best of which perform in concerts. Our students regularly participate in these proceedings, and traditionally grade exceptionally well.
